Crisis Help and Mental Support

North Karelia Crisis Center

Trained crisis workers provide counseling. Crisis assistance is meant to provide temporary crisis support during a few visits in order to prevent chronic stress and mental health problems.

Appointments can be made on weekdays at 10 A.M. – 4 P.M. through the number 013 316 244.

Meetings can take place in person or through a phone or Teams call. The meetings are free of charge for clients. There are no records made of the meetings, and you can come anonymously if you wish.

The service language is Finnish or English, and we will also arrange interpreting if needed.

Siun sote – Public social and health services in Joensuu

Siun sote is a joint municipal authority that provides public social and health services in Joensuu. The services can be found on the website www.siunsote.fi/en/web/english

Social welfare offices help in urgent crisis situations. Offices provide advice and guidance on social services and social security benefits as well as guidance to other social services such as services for families and children.

For urgent help with mental health problems, contact the intensified psychiatric open care for adult psychiatry tel. +358 13 330 2132 Mon–Fri 8 A.M. – 9. P. weekends and public holidays 1–3 P.M. 

In urgent health matters, call 116 117, the Medical Helpline for instructions. When the health stations are closed, help is provided at the emergency clinic at the North Karelia Central Hospital in Joensuu.

In life-threatening situations, call 112. If you are unable to make a call, send a text message to the Emergency Response Centre in the North Karelia region, tel. +358 40 751 7816.

The Orthodox Church

Joensuu’s Orthodox Church provides mental and spiritual support. The staff of the church speak English, Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, Greek, Swedish and Finnish.

ViaDia Joensuu 

ViaDia is Finland’s Evangelical Free Church’s diaconal work organization. Joensuu’s ViaDia operates in the Rantakylä neighborhood about 4 km from Joensuu’s city center.

The ViaDia center is an open meeting place for everyone where you can meet other people and drink coffee. The center is open on weekdays at 10 A.M. – 2 P.M. on Venetie 10.

Lähiötalo is ViaDia’s open meeting place especially for school students and families with children. The goal is to support families’ wellbeing and the integration of immigrant families and to prevent marginalisation. Lähiötalo is open on weekdays at 9:30 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. on the second floor at Riihisärkänkatu 6 C 16.

Perheentalo 

Perheentalo (family house) is a shared, cost-free meeting place for all families with children. In Perheentalo, you can meet other families and children can play and eat their own snacks while the adults drink a cup of coffee/tea. You can also participate in different guided groups and sessions.

Perheentalo is located in Joensuu’s city center near the market square on Rantakatu 15. It is open on Tuesdays at 9 A.M. – 7 P.M. and from Wednesday to Friday at 9 A.M. – 2 P.M.
