On Thursday, November 6, Sirkkala Sports Center will host a safety event aimed at international families, students and immigrants in Joensuu. The event focuses on learning about the work of police and other safety officials in Finland.
Date: Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 4.30–7:00 pm
Location: Sirkkala Sports Centre (Sirkkalantie 12 B)
Program and Schedule:
- 4.30–5.30 – Outdoor activities for the whole family at the Sirkkala Sports Center courtyard. Small snacks and drinks will be available for purchase at a sales stand organized by students’ parents
- 5.30–5.35 Opening words, City of Joensuu
- 5.35–7.00 – Introduction to the work of the Finnish police. The presentation will be interpreted into English on stage. Interpretation in other languages will be arranged based on pre-submitted requests, available through headphones. Please remember to bring your own headphones for interpretation!
- 5.30–7.00 (simultaneously) – For elementary school children and youth: Activity stations inside the Sports Centre and school premises. Indoor activity stations for younger children will be led by multilingual instructors. Small children should be accompanied by an adult.
The event is organized by City of Joensuu – Language and Culture Education (KIEKU), International House Joensuu (IHJ) and Police, together with Customs, Border Guard and City of Joensuu Youth Services.
